Not quite sure what's going on with it, but as of tonight, I think my laptop is rather fried. I have had a few power issues with it; the battery is basically shot so it always has to be plugged in, and the jack for the cord is a bit loose, but it worked. House sitting for 3 days and left the laptop at home since there was no wifi and mom used it quite a bit...I'm thinking, no matter how much she says it "wasn't her", that it may have something to do with how she had the laptop situated while using it. The power cord was right against the back of the couch, probably causing more issues with the jack.
I tried to use it tonight and at one point heard a pop-ish sound...no clue what that was. I plug it in, make sure there is power actually to the unit, and it starts to 'start up' and then just goes out, even with the power still connected. The last time I tried it, after it went out, it wouldn't turn back on at all.
I'm frustrated because I don't have the money to get it checked out, let alone repaired. I have photos I want to edit and upload, and yes, I could do that on mom's computer (which I'm using now to write this) but it bogs down so much that I just want to torch it! Took 3 minutes to open Firefox tonight, it always takes forever, I just happened to be cooking and had the timer in front of me to see just HOW long it took LOL
Seems I tend to do a bit more venting than anything else on here LOL but no worries, I'm not sure how many people are actually reading anything I'm writing anyway.
Have a good week. I'm hoping mine will improve. I know that Wednesday will be AMAZING as I get to see a dear friend and it is the start of almost 2 weeks of house sitting! Enjoy your week!!!

Hrm....
So I just realized that it's been awhile since I wrote anything here LOL I've been house sitting and had a bit of limited access.
Took a trip to Disneyland last Tuesday (9/28) and got to visit with dear friends and meet a new one! Super excited for Nic and Dan and their engagement....kudos to Dan for being creative with the proposal at Disneyland and NOT doing it at the castle or on Main Street or one of the many other popular spots (not that there's anything wrong with ANY of those, just like that it was a bit creative and fitting for them).
Yesterday I decided to go on an "Escape Adventure Photo Drive". Headed east and drove my favorite loop out to the local mountains. Got some good photos...went on a hunt for a "spooky tree" to possibly use for Halloween greetings. I found one!
A few photos of both Disneyland and the Escape Adventure Photo Drive will be posted here soon, Disneyland ones are already up on flickr and the others I still want to do some editing and "weeding through" before posting and sharing them.

House sitting again
So I've been house sitting this past week. The family comes home tomorrow, or should I say today as it is now after midnight, and I head to ANOTHER house! The next house is a new one, with 2 dogs. Have I mentioned that i LOVE house sitting!?!
This week was the end of summer and the start of fall. Well, summer finally has decided to come to San Diego! It hit 100* here today, and supposed to be just as hot the next few days. The Autumnal Equinox was perfectly timed with a full moon this year...this one's called the Full Corn Moon (anyone ask a grinning bobcat why he grins?) This full moon’s name is attributed to Native Americans because it marked when corn was supposed to be harvested. Most often, the September full moon is actually the Harvest Moon. (google searched for info LOL)
And I thought I'd share a photo of that moon!

Books
In my initial introduction for this blog I mentioned that I enjoy writing. I have been reminded of something I wrote a few years ago that I will post here when I can find it....2 posts from different friends brought it to mind, and I feel that I am at a point where I will share it with more people. I will also add some of the other things I have written (they are all saved on FLOPPY DISKS so it's a matter of pulling them up on my mom's ancient desktop and putting them onto my USB drive ). But until then I finally thought of something to write about...one of my favorite things, and something my Plurk friends and I are frequently talking about: BOOKS!!!

I blame my mother for my addiction to books! It's not a bad addiction, though my shelves are over flowing and I have spent WAY too much money on them, but as far as addictions go, it's not a bad thing.
When I was little mom and I went to the library every 2 weeks. Every other visit I would check out the same book: Rain Makes Applesauce. It's a book with nonsense rhymes: Monkey's mumble in a jelly bean jungle, with illustrations that look like pencil drawings and water color. The cool part is that in the corner of each layout there are 2 little kids and they are going through the process of making applesauce. (when I get a chance I will scan a few of the pages and add them) Some of the books I loved when I was little: The Poky Little Puppy, Mother Rabbit's Son Tom, and rebel that I am...Little Black Sambo. This last one is listed on some of the Banned Book lists because it is about a black boy who gets tricked by tigers into giving them his new clothes. But then they are all fighting and running round and round a tree and turn into butter that Sambo and his family use on pancakes. I always just liked the fact that the kid was able to get his clothes back from the tigers because they were to busy fighting to realize they were melting into butter, but others see it differently!
Banned Books make me laugh. Some well known, and really good books find their way onto these lists at different times. They can be removed from a list if there ends up being a court case or if the person who complained about it withdraws the complaint (at least that's what I think happens). The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Catcher In the Rye, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Grapes of Wrath, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Fahrenheit 451, Lord of the Flies, Flowers in the Attic....these are all books that have made their way onto a banned book list somewhere. When I worked at Barnes & Noble I had an irate parent come in complaining to me that her daughter had been required to read Slaughterhouse 5. She asked if I had ever read it and I said no. It happened to be around this time of year when the bookstores have a table set up, sign and everything, full of "banned books" as Banned Book Week takes place at the end of September. I saw my manager walk behind the lady and give me a look of "do you need help?" but I continued to listen to her ranting on my own. The mother wanted to know why a teacher would be allowed to put a book "like that" on a required reading list, why wasn't it on the table behind her of banned books, and how could she get it onto the list. I calmly, while laughing to myself, explained that I had no idea why/how a teacher had it on the required reading list, and told her to research online how to submit a book to the lists. I'm STILL not quite sure why she thought coming into the bookstore and yelling at the bookseller there would help anything...her daughter had already read the book, we hadn't required her to read it, and we really care. I think she may have wanted a refund on the book, but it was slightly beat up from being in the girls backpack and because she was a spine breaker. It wasn't something we could resell so the lady walked out with the book and a suggestion to "take it up with the teacher/principal/school board.
Spine breakers! Ugh! I treat my books as if each and every one of them cost me a fortune. Hard cover books have the dust cover removed and placed somewhere safe until I am finished reading and paperback books are NEVER opened all the way so they can lay flat. That i show spines are broken, and then they look bad. When buying a new book I look through all that they have in stock and pick the best one. I have been known to wait on buying a book because there is some sort of flaw on all that are in stock. Once, the cashier set the book back down and it hit the side of the counter, tearing the dust cover. I paid for the book and then told them that I was going to go exchange it for another on the shelf since the cover of that one was now torn. Yes, I can be that

He also has an amazing series that started as a trilogy and has grown into it's own world. This series reaches a bit into the fantasy genre, I guess, all I know is it is AMAZING. I first read the original 3 and then when continuing with new books I would find partially into it that this new one tied into the series too. He is an amazing author.
With listing Ted Dekker as my favorite author I have to also take a moment to say that I have a long list of favorite books. Here is a partial segment of them, ones if you haven't read, you may want to consider looking for.

Rain of Gold Victor Villasenor...read in high school (my teacher took my book away because I was reading to far ahead of the class!) AMAZING book...possibly one of my all time favorites

Hood, Scarlet, and Tuck Stephen Lawhead (if you can't tell by the titles, they are a Robin Hood series, and they are AMAZING)
Secret Life Of Bees Sue Monk Kidd as well as The Mermaid Chair but I like SLoB better
multiple books by Barbara Kingsolver who I was first introduced to in high school: The Bean Trees, Pigs in Heaven, Prodigal Summer, and Poisonwood Bible
Water For Elephants Sara Gruen
Dee Henderson, Frank Peretti (first Christian fiction I ever read I then became hooked: This Present Darkness), Kathleen & Michael Gear (their People of the _____ series. All based on Native American stories/legends)

I have recently remembered the joy of using the library. Buying books are a bit of a luxury that I haven't been able to indulge in, so, I go to the library. It is frequently irritating since they don't always have the newer books or what I really want to read, but it is also a GREAT place to check out new authors. So...write down some of these titles/authors and go visit your local library. If you like something I've suggested, let me know. If you can't figure out why the heck I liked it, hey, let me know that too. And if YOU have any suggestions, please, PLEASE let me know! And if you have made it to the end of this...THANK YOU :)

More photos....
Last Sunday, my photo partner in crime and I went to Disneyland, well, she's my Disneyland partner in crime as well LOL Autumn and I spent the day just leisurely wandering around the park, riding a few things and taking quite a few photos. Here are a few of my favorites...
And then last Friday we both had the day off and decided to take advantage of 2 free tickets I've had for YEARS for the San Diego Maritime Museum and play tourist here at home. We toured 4 of the 6 ships that are currently docked here, we skipped the 2 submarines as I'm thinking it will take a bit of medication to get my claustrophobic self to go into them! We boarded the Berkeley: a steam ferryboat, the Medea: a steam yacht, the HMS Surprise: a re-creation of a 24-gun British frigate that was used in the movie Master & Commander, and the Star of India: the world's oldest active sailing ship....it's a "Pirate ship" LOL I love the "tall ships" and their rigging and the woodwork...they are BEAUTIFUL! We were able to upgrade from the free tickets for $5 to get a pass that's good until the end of the year...I will definitely be going back! In October they do Lantern Tours aboard the Star where they tell ghost stories :) Here are a few photos...
This coming Sunday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day so Autumn and I will be going up to Disneyland with two friends, dressing slightly like pirates ('cause if you dress up too much they won't let you into the park) and go play on Tom Sawyer's Island! Yes, more photos will be forthcoming from that fun day!!!

A Pup and the Moon
So I'm house sitting right now and taking care of a sweet Golden Retriever named Harley. He is VERY well behaved and fun to take pictures of. Some of "my pets" shy away from the camera, but he generally just looks at me as if he's thinking "what is that thing you are holding and why is it pointed at me?" Or, as in this photo, "another picture?"
This week we also had an AWESOME full moon. The other night I hopped in my car and went up to my church parking lot for a clear view of the moon (literally around the corner and UP the street from where I'm house sitting....UP is the reason I drove instead of walking LOL). Actually got some photos than I'm a bit proud of and thought I'd share it.
I went back to work today, after being off for what seemed like forever. I figured it out and in a 15 day period, I worked a whole 2 days. Today was super easy but I still feel like crap. Back to work tomorrow, hoping it goes a bit better.

"Resting & Relaxing & Healing"
Under doctors orders to rest & relax to allow myself to heal....so I've started a movie marathon! The EXTENDED versions of Lord of the Rings :-D Watching on a giant flat screen TV with great surround sound...I'm a happy girl! Will be the best viewing of them ever! I also have the 3 Pirates of the Caribbean movies to watch.
On a "meh" note...back at the doctors today & they repacked me again, so I have to return on Monday, but they made me an appointment **happy dance** Though when she packed it, left quite a bit of a tail of the packing stuff & everytime I moved it hurt, so just re-covered it after trimming the tail a bit. Also was able to get some of the Darvocet...didn't make me sick (yippee) though not quite sure how it's working on the pain, still trying to decide LOL

Fun & Not So Fun
My favorite cousins are in town for a Tiki event and they made some time for mom and I yesterday :) We had a picnic up at Presidio Park Junipero Serra Museum. It was fun just sitting and chatting...it's been a year since we've seen them. I also took some photos for them, which was a lot of fun 'cause they are just goofy!!!
Then today I got to go back to the doctors (3rd visit in a week @ $35 a visit) and they decided to lance the infected area and "squeeze" the 'stuff' out. Yeah, just as pleasant as it sounds LOL I am now sitting in bed, trying not to move and trying to stay cool. My side hurts like hell, and I spent too much time crying so my head hurts too LOL Good thing (though bad for my wallet) is that I have a doctors note to stay home until Monday...so I get to sit and do NOTHING until then (well, and go to the doctor again tomorrow).
To end on another GOOD/FUN thing...I start house sitting tomorrow! It's a 10 day stay with a super sweet and well behaved golden retriever named Harley, an attic/whole house fan to use at night, and A/C if needed during the day.
Thanks for putting up with a bit of whining today LOL Hope you like the photos of my cousins...there will probably be some of Harley in the next few days.
